How to Make Wood Pellets Successfully
As the prices of coal, fossil fuels and electricity continuously increase, wood pellets are considered to be the renewable energy. Wood pellet mills are widely used in large industries to produce wood pellets.
To make sure wood pellet mills operate successfully, there are a lot of things that need to be taken into consideration.
First, moisture content of raw materials must be kept below 16%. To produce high quality pellets, massive mechanical pressure is required to create binding of the raw materials. However, the greater the moisture content is, the poorer the pellet quality will be. Also, it is true that friction within the die of wood pellet mills will create heat. If the temperature of the die exceeds approximately 90°C, the moisture will begin to gasify. Previous research tells us that if the moisture content of raw materials exceeds 16%, pellet quality will begin to suffer.
Second, materials that get into wood pellet mills should be of a consistent particle size. Wood shavings will cause blockage in the feed mechanism and wood chips will also cause mechanical failure. Thus, before transferring materials into the wood pellet mills, they should be processed by a hammer mill to achieve proper size.
Third, though wood pellet mills can mix different materials by adding water and pellet binders, it still needs attention since different materials need different levels of additives. If the materials are constantly varying, it will be difficult to control the addition of additives of the pellets. However, if different materials are presented in a consistent ratio and additives can be adjusted to match with it and high quality pellets will be produced.
Putting all these factors always in mind, making pellets with wood pellet machines will be smooth and easy.
